Commissioning a Painting FAQs

You're thinking about commissioning a painting, and you probably have some questions. Ideally, our FAQs will help answer many of them, and if not please take a few moments to email or call us. We're always happy to help!

What type of custom paintings can you order?

Many commissions have been based on the images on our website. We've created custom artwork in a wide array of styles and sizes. They've been done on canvas or paper. 

Some commissions are based on an idea or a photo that a client has. We are open to almost any idea. All you have to do is ask! 

How much of your time will this take?

You can be as involved in the process as you want. Initial consultations have ranged from a brief phone call to an 1/2 hour long conversation. After all the details have been outlined, we'll create the commissioned artwork and email photos for your review. This usually takes 3 to 4 weeks from when the deposit is paid.

If requested, we will make adjustments to your commission. We'll make the changes, and send new photos. Our only goal is that you love your painting!

What sizes can you request?

Our paintings have ranged from a singular painting that's 18 inch x 24 inch to 6 foot x 9 foot. We've also designed and created multiple-panels that span 15 feet across by 6 feet high. 

Here are some popular sizes:  18" x 24" __ 24" x 24"__ 24" x 30"__ 24" x 36"__ 30" x 40"__ 36" x 36"__ 36" x 48"__ 36" x 60"__ 48" x 48"__ 48" x 60".

We can also custom build any other size you want!

Can you tell me about your paintings?

Our paintings are created by artists/owners Kathleen Patrick or Joseph Catanzaro. about us >

We use the very finest archival, light-fast acrylic paints available, as well as the best commercially produced artist canvases.  For details, read more  >

Will you match my colors?

Absolutely! You can send us actual fabric and paint samples if you prefer. Some clients have sent photos of the room and furnishings, or even the paint brand and color name for us to match. We can even send you samples of paint colors we've mixed, for you to select from.

How do I approve my painting?

We will email you photos of the painting for you to review. 

What if I want changes to the painting?

If you want any modifications, we will make them, and email you new photos in a few days. We will work with you until you are completely happy! 

Will I need to frame my painting?

All our paintings on canvas are ready to hang as is. No framing is necessary, but you can frame them. Each piece is a canvas wrap, stretched on a museum quality wooden frame, with the image continuing around the .75" or 1.5" sides. 

Works on paper are generally sent rolled so the client can have it matted and framed.

What about shipping?

For custom paintings, we ship throughout the U.S. They can be shipped ready to hang or rolled and you can have it stretched. 

All artwork is packaged to the highest standards and fully insured to your door. 

How much is shipping?

The cost depends on the size of the painting, the shipping distance from our studio and the painting's insurance value. We will provide an estimate when these details are determined. We ship with UPS, fully insured to your door.

Do you ship internationally?

Yes, to most locations around the world! Our paintings can be rolled and shipped, or shipped stretched and ready to hang. It's up to you. Just contact us for a shipping estimate.

 

Will I be charged sales tax?

Sales tax (10%) is charged for all purchases if you live in Illinois.
